Essay 2-02b: Group Essay about Robin Hood

We watched the 1991 and the 2010 versions of Robin Hood. We will tell you about our favorite scenes.

Yukino watched the movie of Robin Hood~The Prince of thieves~. It was screened in 1990, and old movie, but the story was interesting for her to watch.

Yukino’s favorite scene in the movie Robin Hood was the final duel of a movie. Robin Hood storms to the George (Sheriff of Nottingham)'s castle to recover Marian Dubois, who is king Richard's cousin and was carried off, from George. And then he duel with George in front of Marian to help her. The scene was the climax!! It keeps me in suspense. In fact, the main character of this story is Robin, but Yukino boost George without notice because he is a scream person in this movie. Yukino do not know whether he is funny or not, I think that Alan Rickman's performance as George, sheriff of Nottingham, is briliant! because he received BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role with this movie in 1991, so it is one of the highlight.

Eimi watched the 2010 version of Robin Hood. Eimi’s favorite scene in this movie was scene of war versus French army, because this scene has big impact. Before this scene, northern marquees were angry at the new king and tried to against the king, because king requested excessive tax. Many northern marquees gathered, Robin Hood was there too instead of marquees son of Nottingham, then the king told around them with Robin's help. This background makes bigger sensation.

In Eimi’s favorite scene, Robin Hood and northern marquees fight at shore. Behind the shore, there was huge wall. In the battle scene, a lot of arrows flew from there to shore. Especially she likes this scene, because it was so beautiful. Robin Hood was so strong, he is an expert archer, and he is very smart. This scene depicted his character very clearly.

Haruka’s favorite scene of Robin Hood was a scene that Robin went to King's brother to hand his crown. Robin Hood was sincere because he delivered the crown respectfully. The King asked Robin Hood to hand his brother the crown when he is dying. So the King entrusted with an important role. It may have been possible to give up the role, but he achieved it exactly. She thought that he was honest and brave. He also had a important role. It was to hand the sword of Robart to his father. Robart was killed at the war, so the role is also important role. However, he achieved to delivered the sword to Robart’s father though he was almost killed by French army. This movie is not only about the fight between England and France, but also about human nature of Robin Hood. After she watched this movie, she was moved because of his human nature.

Finally we had big impression at big scale fighting scene and the scene which Robin Hood went to King’s brother to hand his crown. We were drawn to Robin Hood’s brave and honest character. 1991 ver and 2010 ver. had many different points, we recommend that you watch both works, because you can find different points and you will be amused.

BR 2-02: A Christmas Carol

" 'A Merry Christmas, uncle,' said Scrooge's nephew, Fred, coming into the cold dark office. 'Bah!' replied Scrooge. 'Humbug!' He really hated Christmas."(Dickens, 2002, p6)

Do you know the story of 'A Christmas Carol' ? This story is British fairy tale, and very famous story of Christmas. It was translated from English into various language.  Of cause it was made into a lot of movies, including Disney.

It is first time, I read it this time, and I was thought a lot things by this book. For example 'What is true happiness for me?' 'What is family love?' 'What is kind?' and so on.

The main character, Ebenerzer Scrooge, is very cold-blooded fellow, egoist and scrooge(it means miser). He hates "happy" , "people",  "everything", but likes only money. The day before Christmas eve, his ex-coworker,Jacob Marley, who already dead come to Scrooge  to preach. After he disappear, three fairys of Christmas, and show him other "happy" Christmas....

In my opinion, the story is like a Aesop's Fables because it has some lessons. I want you thinking something through this story. You can get something without fail.

Rewrite:Favorite Place

My favorite place is downtown of Vancouver in Canada. Do you know where Vancouver is? Vancouver is located in the west of Canada, and its downtown is located in the center of Vancouver. The downtown is very crowded every noon, even weekday, because it is the most flourish place in Canada.

First of all, there are a great number of stores. For example, there are supermarket, Seven-Eleven (convenience store), Korean department store  and a lot of souvenir store! And then every store are very cheep. You can buy everything which you is daily necessaries.

In the second place, the 2010 Vancouver winter Olympic games had been hold there, so traffic networks were improved. The government of Canada made "Canada Line" like subway. It is convenience for us. And some modern art works have been placing at downtown. For example there are huge man's face which is laid, large object which is 3 meters high and like aluminum foil, over 10 people with funny face and so on. Therefore it is nice for me to live, and I could feel art easily.

Finally, the downtown is grown into one, old-fashion thing and modern one. You can see both points at buildings. There are mutual historical buildings, classical one and modern  along some streets in downtown. So it produces a strange atmosphere. Of course it is good meaning.
